This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise signs of disease or pests in fish and other aquatic life, and take appropriate reporting and response action.

The unit applies to individuals who carry out routine tasks in the seafood industry where they have daily contact with aquatic organisms.

All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Seek advice from supervisors, professionals or appropriate authorities when signs indicate a potential disease or pest 
Report signs of potential disease or a pest that presents a biosecurity risk to appropriate authorities immediately according to workplace procedures 
Implement biosecurity measures according to organisational biosecurity plans and instructions from appropriate authority
